Which Vendor Should I Hire First?

The good news is that there is no right way to choose your key wedding vendors. That said, a few considerations can help you enlist the right people early on.

  • Venues are one of the items that book farthest in advance, so if you already have an idea of when and/or where you want to wed, you may want to start by booking your wedding venue (after you have established your wedding budget, of course!).
  • Hiring a wedding planner, if you want to do so, early on can also be extremely beneficial. Not only can your wedding planner help you find a team of vendors that will work well together, but she or he can likely also help to review contracts to ensure you get exactly what you want when it comes to coverage, time, services, etc.
  • If you already have a dream photographer or videographer in mind, you may want to book this vendor next. Many photo and video teams only shoot one wedding a day, possibly a week. So the earlier you book, the more likely you are to land your first-choice picks.

Vendors that book multiple clients a day can usually be chosen next, since they are likely to have more availability. Florists, bakers, some catering teams, etc. may be able to complete one, two or more weddings in a weekend. That said, remember, a designated wedding planner can really help you prioritize tasks!
