Are fancy dances not you or your fiance’s style? Are you not sure you even want to have a dance floor at all? No one and no wedding planning rules say you have to host a traditional wedding reception. In fact, many couples are now shirking tradition, in favor of out-of-the-box options that can be super entertaining, and therefore memorable, for guests. From bounce houses to bubble machines, there are lots of ways to up the fun factor at your wedding and embrace your inner kid. After all, who knows how to have more fun than kids?
Go Full-on Fun
Whether you decide to take a cue from your favorite childhood birthday, or the most whimsical date you and your groom-to-be have ever been on, it’s fun and simple to create a fanciful wedding reception based around an event or theme.
For instance, consider a classy circus-themed event, complete with popcorn machines, cotton candy, games and a balloon artist. You can even ditch the standard plain white reception tent for something snazzy with stripes.
Or, rent several bounce houses, hire a caricature artist, put out bubble machines and other toys and throw yourself the epic party you always dreamed of having as a kid. Complete the nostalgic ride with childhood favorites like hotdogs and French fries, or other low-key but easy to elevate meals. (Think about renting a food truck that does gourmet dogs or quirky toppings.)
Keep It Simple, But Still Silly
Even if you still plan on having a somewhat traditional reception, that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to incorporate some playful elements. Have custom wedding coloring books made as favors for guests of all ages, which can double as entertainment while they wait on you to cut the cake. Or, if your wedding venue has a lovely outdoor area, incorporate grown-up versions of childhood games, like giant Jenga or cornhole. (Did you know you can order customized boards just for your big day?)
