Cool Ideas for Your Autumn Wedding: Part Three

Fall Wedding Menu PlanningSummer is often a time for backyard grilling, and picnics by the pool, or on the beach. Many people avoid the kitchen, while the weather is warm, in favor of spending more time outdoors eating simple meals and fresh summer bounty. But while corn on the cob and fresh watermelon may be filling your plate, right now, it’s not too early to look ahead to fall, especially if you are in the process of planning an autumn wedding. Today we’re sharing a few of our favorite meal ideas, for anyone planning a fall wedding celebration!

What’s for Dinner, and Dessert?

When it comes to choosing your fall wedding menu, there are many compelling reasons to look to nature to be your guide. Seasonal foods are not only fresher, they are often more affordable, and many delicious and versatile vegetables are in season, during the fall. Squash, eggplant, sweet potatoes, artichokes, brussel sprouts and broccoli are just a few of the bold flavors readily available during the fall. Look to these when discussing your menu with your caterer, and you could wind up with some unique and delicious side or main dishes. (It can be especially meaningful to source as many ingredients locally, as possible. So don’t be afraid to ask your caterer or local farmer’s market about what will be freshest when your fall wedding rolls around.)

Autumnal fruits also lend themselves well to both main courses and desserts (and custom drinks!). Pears, dates, plums, cranberries, grapes, guava, apples and pomegranate are all harvested in the fall, making them ideal bases for tasty and seasonal desserts or savory side dishes. But these ingredients – and who can forget pumpkin – also make excellent flavor profiles for signature cocktails, as well, which continue to be a huge wedding trend! Of course, seasonal wines and ales are also welcome additions to any wedding menu.
