Three Tips for Rocking Your Engagement Session

Tips for Your Engagement Session

Rock your engagement session, with some simple tips from your friends at TOT!

Wondering how you and your fiancé are going to do at your upcoming engagement session? It will likely be the first time you meet your wedding photographer, and in many ways it is a good opportunity to learn your way around a camera lens, and to build rapport both as a couple, and as a team with your chosen wedding professionals. Here are a few ways you can help go into the session ready to knock it out of the park, so to speak, and by that we mean ways you can ensure you come away with engagement photos you’ll love, and that will stand the test of time!

Do a Little Research

If it’s been ages since you last had photos taken, you may not feel natural in front of the camera. Fortunately, going into the session with some knowledge about what to expect can help you relax into the session much faster!

While it might be counterproductive – and even annoying to your photographer – if you go into the session with a hundred shots you must get, it can be helpful to have a few poses in mind when you start your engagement photos. It can also be extremely helpful to read some tips about what to where and how to stand during portraits, in order to help ensure you look your absolute best in the photos!

Don’t Skip the Manicure

Most photographers advise that you have your hair and makeup professionally done for any photo session, as it can help avoid any makeup meltdowns mid-shoot (particularly helpful in humid climates like Texas). It also provides a great opportunity to do a test-run with the person or people you’re considering hiring for your wedding day, as well.

The better you know your stylists, the more likely you are to get the exact look you want on your big day, so take this opportunity to build some camaraderie and trust with them.

Just keep in mind that the engagement session is not a time to skimp on having your nails done, either. After all, you’re gonna want to showcase that beautiful rock your fiancé bought you. Make sure it shines bright next to neatly manicure nails!

Be Yourselves, Of Course!

Perhaps the most important key to loving your engagement photos is to simply be yourselves during the session. If you’re a couple that loves to laugh together, it would be silly to focus all your time trying to nail super serious or overly fussy poses, rather than enjoying candid moments together. On the other hand, if you’re the romantic type, never ones to shy away from PDA, don’t be afraid to be particularly lovey during your session. Let your personalities shine through, and you’re sure to love the moments that are captured.

Choose the Perfect Location

It’s also good to keep in mind that location is everything, when it comes to a photo session. Choose a place significant to the two of you, if possible, and certainly one that fits your style, whether that is rustic, classic, or romantic.

Here at Texas Old Town, we actually open our venue for free engagement and bridal sessions to our wedding couples, so their photos can reflect their style and allude to their big day to come!
