We get it. Talking about your wedding budget doesn’t exactly scream fun. But for most couples, working within their wedding budget is extremely important to limiting stress, and helping to ensure they have the wedding of their dreams, without going into crazy amounts of debt to do so. Fortunately, once you have established what you can afford to spend, sticking to your budget doesn’t have to be daunting. You just need to make some smart decisions early on, about what matters most to the two of you, and how you can keep your expenses in line with what you can actually afford.
Set Your Priorities and Stick to Them!
Once you and your fiancé, and any family members that might have offered to contribute to the wedding, have determined what you can afford to spend, it is time to talk about where the money you have will be divvied up.
While there are numerous templates online, for breaking down a wedding budget, we find it is helpful for brides to keep in mind that these are only general guides, based on what many couples consider priorities. Every couple is different, so ultimately you need to make decisions based on what works best for you.
If you don’t plan on having an open bar, for instance, this is an easy line item to cross off and a way to free up money for items that matter more to you. Want a rocking reception that keeps people on the dance floor? You may care more about the DJ or band you hire than what dessert is served.
Put simply, where you decide to spend the most money should be based on what you most desire for your wedding day, not what a premade template dictates. Keeping that in mind is a simple way to ensure you stick to your budget and enjoy planning the wedding of your dreams!
