Did you recently get engaged? If so, let us first say “Yay! And also, congratulations!” Now that the salutations are out of the way, and once your Facebook status has officially been changed, it’s time for the fun of wedding planning to begin. Before you sit down with your besties and a stack of bridal magazines, though, it can be helpful to take a moment to discuss the most important parts of planning with your fiancé and anyone that might be contributing to the wedding financially. That way you can begin wedding planning with your eye on the prize, and making smart decisions that will move you closer to your dream wedding day!
Set Your Budget
Before deciding anything else, it is incredibly important to first establish your wedding budget. That way you aren’t tempted to spend more than you should, and so you can save yourself the heartache of falling in love with a wedding gown that is thousands of dollars over your budget.
If you and your fiancé are paying for the wedding yourself, then the two of you need to settle on how much you will spend, and how exactly you will save the funds, or if any portion of the day will be paid on credit.
If either or both sets of parents are contributing to the wedding, get a clear figure from them upfront, so you know what kind of budget you’re really working with. And then commit to staying within whatever amount is set, that way no one is surprised or stressed as money starts getting spent!
