Weddings can be stressful. That’s no secret. But that doesn’t mean you should feel overwhelmed on your wedding day. In fact, there are plenty of steps you can take ahead of time to help cut down on any avoidable stressors, and also to ensure you actually get to feel present to enjoy each moment as it happens. Here are a few simple steps you can take during the process of wedding planning to help ensure your wedding day is a success, and that you really get to enjoy it!

3. Limit Your Bridal Party to Close Friends and Family

We understand the desire to include everyone you’ve ever been close to in your wedding day. It’s natural to want to share your joy, and also to honor those whose presence has been meaningful throughout the many seasons of your life.

That said, having a bridal party that is too big for comfort (either one so big it will cause you stress, or one too big to comfortably fit in your chosen venue, or even the hotel room/bridal suite where you’ll be getting ready) can make things complicated. For this reason, we recommend choosing only your closest friends (and/or family) to serve as your bridesmaids.

This could mean two or ten, based on your needs and available space. You should do what’s right for you. Just don’t feel pressured into asking more people than you really want, to serve in the wedding.

If you want to honor special people, without crowding your bridal party, keep in mind that you can ask them to serve in other roles. For instance, your old college pals can pass out guest books, help to cut the cake for guests, or even read special poems or passages during the ceremony. You can also put talented friends to work by asking them to sing or play an instrument at your ceremony or reception.

Of course, you can also simply make a note to your photographer that you want to take pictures with all these pals after the wedding. This way their presence is celebrated, and commemorated.

4.    Hire Vendors You Trust and Like

Finally, when it comes to choosing your wedding vendors, make sure you pick people you can really trust, namely seasoned professionals. Your wedding venue might even be able to provide you with a list of recommended vendors.

Of course, you also want to hire people whose personalities you like. You don’t need to be best friends with your caterer or cake baker, but you do want to make sure that you can work well together leading up to the wedding, and that anyone who will be by your side, or serving as a point person, during the wedding day, is someone whose company you’ll enjoy.

For instance, you should have a sense of chemistry with both your photographer and your wedding planning/coordinator, since these people will be beside you for much of the biggest day of your life!
